A QUICK OVERVIEW OF DANGRIGA
The name Dangriga means “standing waters” in the Garifuna language.
Punta Rock, a unique musical style, a close cousin to reggae, was invented in Dangriga.
Every year, the town turns out to celebrate Garifuna Settlement Day in recognition of the arrival of the Garifuna people on this date in 1823. Food, dancing, and music make for a lively atmosphere.
Home to many local specialties, including cashew wine, coconut fish dishes and cassava bread.
